Description
-
In this abstract, gestural painting, heavy, impasto handfuls of black paint are heaped onto and smeared over a cerulean blue backdrop modulated by unevenly blended tints and shades of the same hue. The artist uses his hands and body to mould the paint directly, as if it were a sculptural medium, leaving winding, sweeping, intersecting calligraphic strokes in a shape reminiscent of a hashtag. Small amounts of paint have been flung onto the work, leaving thin streaks or splatters that bear witness to the artist's vigorous painterly process.
