Description
-
This abstract, gestural painting consists of thick, impasto handfuls of black paint smeared and slathered over the canvas using the artist's arms and hands, forming a calligraphic shape against a light-coloured backdrop plastered over with unevenly blended, pale blue, white, and grey strokes. Minute traces of red paint have been mixed into the backdrop.

Condition
-
Remounted onto a new sheet of fabric and a new stretcher. A rectangular window has been cut into the fabric so that the signature on the back of the original canvas remains visible. Serious craquelure. Bits of paint are flaking off the surface of the work. The work appears to have been cleaned. Discolouration; some white strokes appear slightly yellow and there is a greenish mark near the right edge of the composition. Dust.
