Description
-
In this detailed, realistic charcoal portrait, King Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII) is depicted in three-quarter profile, from the waist up, dressed in a Raj pattern suit decorated with a sash and numerous medals. The drawing is based on a well-known photograph of the king. The artist's strokes are smoothly blended, creating an effect of soft focus, imbuing the image with an auratic character.

Inscriptions
-
Remove the frame. A label bearing the name of the artist's portrait studio (惠民畫像室) and the text "created by Chang Sae-tang" (เขียนโดยนายจ่าง แซ่ตั๊ง) is affixed at the bottom right corner of the drawing, above the date "2.3.1959".
-
Condition
-
Grazing. Discolouration. A photo of several military officers is sandwiched within the frame. The inclusion of the photo seems to have prevented discolouration along the bottom edge of the drawing, which otherwise appears yellowish-brown. Tide lines near the bottom left corner of the work.
