Description
-
A semi-realistic self-portrait composed of thin, unblended brushstrokes layered one atop another in vivid, complementary colours. Circles and rectangles resembling Chinese seals and columns of pseudo-calligraphic scribbles are inscribed over the backdrop, which is covered primarily in quick, sweeping upstrokes, evoking wild foliage. The colour palette, which includes blue, yellow, black, and white, is dominated by shades of red and green.

Inscriptions
-
Signed and dated "17.10.1985" on the reverse. "61" written upside down on the back of the frame. Labelled "1985" on a piece of corrugated plastic affixed to the back of the frame (upside down).

Condition
-
Mild craquelure. Dust. The canvas is stapled to the frame and some of the staples are broken. Gummed paper has been applied to the back of the canvas; on the paper are stains caused by rusty nails in the frame. Some paint stains on the reverse due to the medium used seeping through the canvas. Insect remains stuck to the back of the canvas. The work appears to be in good condition overall.
