Description
-
A semi-abstract, frontal self-portrait depicting the artist's head and shoulders. Brief, broken, thin hatch lines are reiterated in dense proximity, describing the contours of the his facial features. His eye sockets, however, are left blank, while thin, dry, wavy brushstrokes and scribbles emanate outwards from his face, representing loose strands of hair. The outlines of his body are partially delineated, verging on formlessness.

Brown stains at the top left corner corresponding to the inscription on the reverse. The staples used to secure the canvas to the stretcher have rusted. Holes along the edges of the canvas where it was previously nailed into the stretcher. Brown stains around some brushstrokes and on the reverse due to the oils or other constituents in the medium used seeping through the canvas. Light scratches to the left of the image which could have been caused by an animal. Tears along the top edge. Scuff marks, liquid stains, or traces of dirt along the left, bottom, and right edges. In fair condition overall.
