In this close-up, frontal self-portrait, brief, broken, curved hatch lines painted using a fine brush describe the contours of the artist's face, while creating tonal gradations. When viewed up close, the image dissolves into an abstract mass of detailed, black strokes.

Inscriptions

Signed "จ่าง—" and "จ่าง แซ่ตั้ง". Dated "31 ตุลา 1969". Some cancelled inscriptions on the reverse. "37" on the right side of the frame.

Condition

Craquelure. Dust and dirt. Brown stains around some strokes due to the medium used seeping through the canvas. Grazing or scuff marks at the corners or along the edges, with the exception of the bottom edge. Lizard droppings.
