Description
-
In this abstract, three-quarter profile portrait painting, the artist's upper body is depicted using unblended, broken strokes of vivid, complementary colour juxtaposed and then recombined via the technique of optical mixing. In the background, columns of pseudo-calligraphic strokes are inscribed over cursorily blended, dry brushstrokes. Painted primarily in red, with green, amber, brown, and white. Thick, impasto strokes, which could have been painted using the artist's fingers, cover his face, which appears to be glowing due to the use of white highlights. The image dissolves into abstraction when viewed up close.
