Description
-
Thick, heavy handfuls of white paint are slathered over the canvas using the artist's hands and body, creating powerful, dynamic strokes in a shape resembling the artist's abstract, logographic self-portraits. In particular, the sequence of strokes painted at the centre of the composition recalls the Chinese character "不". Traces of red, yellow, and blue paint have been mixed into the white, while the light-coloured background consists of a layer of white paint glazed over a blue or black base layer, adding depth to an image which may seem flat on first glance.
