Description
-
This abstract, gestural painting consists of swathes of black and white paint smeared over the canvas surface in broad, sweeping movements, forming a simple loop. Smaller amounts of red and yellow paint have been integrated into the loop, against a light-coloured background. A thinning medium seems to have been poured over the work, causing the paint to dribble down the canvas in vertical streaks. A variety of surface textures—wrinkles, creases, cracks, strokes bleeding into the background—engages the viewer's sense of touch. May have been painted using a combination of brushes and the artist's hands.

Condition
-
Insect remains stuck on the back of the canvas. Craquelure, especially along the top, right, and bottom edges. Holes along the edges where the canvas was nailed to the structure; nails have rusted; the canvas is pulling away from the stretcher very slightly. Buckling. Dust. Stains on the reverse due to the medium used seeping through the canvas.
