Description
-
This abstract, gestural painting consists of thick, lumpy, granular handfuls of black paint heaped onto the canvas and smeared across the surface using the artist's fingers, creating a wild, dynamic mass of winding, looping lines strokes set against a red backdrop. Small amounts of red and white have been mixed into the black paint. Bits of black paint have been splattered and flung across the canvas, adding to the textured, viscerally tactile surface.

Serious craquelure. Large chunks of paint have chipped off the surface of the canvas. Handle with care. Buckling. Tears at the top right and bottom right corners and along the right edge of the canvas, which has pulled away from the stretcher. Holes on the reverse, along the edges where the canvas was formerly nailed into the stretcher. The nails have rusted. Lizard and insect droppings. Dust and dirt. A small hole along the left edge. Stains on the reverse due to the medium used seeping through the canvas.
