In this abstract self-portrait, the artist's characteristic facial features are reduced to simple, logographic forms painted with handfuls of black, white, and grey paint smeared over the canvas in broad, sweeping strokes. Lumpy, granular chunks of paint are added to parts of the composition, creating a viscerally tactile surface. Touches of red have been mixed into the black.

Craquelure. Dust and dirt. Insect and lizard droppings. Some evidence that the paint has chipped off. Nails used to affix the canvas to the frame have rusted. In good condition overall.
