Description
-
A landscape painting of a house reduced to simple, rectilinear lines and shapes painted in slow, controlled, horizontal and vertical strokes using a broad, flat brush. The windows of the house are outlined in a naive style, while loose, gestural brushstrokes to the left of the image hint at the presence of other buildings in the background. Painted in a limited colour palette consisting of shades of cream, white, and translucent bluish-green, with touches of amber.

Condition

Colours appear faded. White brushstrokes appear yellowish. Some brown stains near the left and right edges. The canvas seems to have started pulling away from the stretcher, even though it has been stapled again along the top edge. Craquelure. Some brown stains along the bottom edge of the work (possibly due to the discolouration of the paint). Tiny dark-coloured spots; possibly insect droppings. Mould (in the form of small white spots) on top of the frame. Dust and dirt on the back. Nails and staples used to attach the canvas to the stretcher are rusty.
