This abstract, gestural painting consists of thick, heavy, impasto streaks of black paint smeared onto canvas using the artist's hands. Gaps between these sweeping strokes and cracks in the impasto medium reveal patches of red concealed beneath the black, against a white background. Thin trails of black paint have been flung onto the canvas.

Dust and dirt. Insect droppings. Craquelure (some of it may be part of the work). Paint flaking. Brown stains around some strokes and on the reverse; possibly due to the oils in the medium used seeping through the canvas. Tears along the top right edge and the bottom right edge. Small holes along the edges of the canvas where it was formerly nailed into the stretcher; a second set of nails secures the canvas to the stretcher. Some distortion of the canvas, which tends towards a trapezoid rather than a rectangular shape.
