A semi-abstract, realistically proportioned self-portrait composed of short, thin, broken brushstrokes and gestural scribbles composed in areas of varying density, creating tonal gradations. The artist's eyes are left blank and parts of his face appear incomplete, as if dissipating into the background.

Condition

Dirt along the edges of the canvas and some small liquid stains. Tear along the bottom right edge. A gash along the right edge which has been overpainted in white. Canvas appears to have been re-stretched. Faint stains caused by the inscription are visible near the top left corner of the work. Stains on the reverse and around some strokes due to the medium used seeping through the canvas.
