Description

A bold, calligraphic shape formed by streaks of black paint laid on thickly over a white backdrop using a combination of unconventional tools and the artist's hands, with the build-up of impasto layers causing cracks in the medium, revealing the red base beneath. Thin trails of paint have been flung onto the canvas.

Signed and dated "1969" on the reverse. Numbered "34" at the top right corner of the stretcher.

Condition

Discolouration; white paint appears yellowish. Brown stains around some strokes. A long tear along the bottom edge, where the canvas has been stretched onto the frame. Dust and dirt. Insect droppings. Slight damage to the canvas at the top left and top right corners. Liquid stains in the form of thin horizontal and vertical lines within the bottom half of the work. Appears to have been remounted onto a new stretcher. Stains on the reverse due to the medium used seeping through the canvas.
