Description
-
Large, thick handfuls of black paint are smeared over a still-wet backdrop of brief, patchy, erratic black and white brushstrokes, creating murky grey swirls. Parallel lines are etched into the surface of the work, possibly using the artist's fingers, drawing attention to the dynamic, forceful process by which the work was created.

Condition
-
Severe discolouration; the canvas has turned brown completely and parts of the work that were covered in thinner layers of white paint now appear brown. Craquelure. Serious paint flaking. Dust and dirt. Two tears near the bottom edge. Another two tears near the top edge. Tears at the corners of the work and holes along the edges where the canvas was nailed onto the stretcher. Additional staples have been applied to secure the canvas to the stretcher. Grazing on the reverse; tiny holes within the work which were likely caused by insects. In poor condition.
