Description
-
While parts of this self-portrait—the artist's nostrils, lips, moustache, beard, and long, wild hair—are delineated with lightly sketched, loose, wavy, thin strokes, the upper half of his face remains blank. Below the image are columns of pseudo-calligraphic forms, a circular cluster of scribbles, four instances of the phrase "Chang is Chang" (จ่างก็คือจ่าง), and a single instance of the word "non-self" or "anattā" (อนัตตา). Some strokes may have been made using an unconventional tool. The work is mounted on patterned paper, in the manner of a Chinese scroll.
