Rendered in broad, simplified, gestural brushstrokes, the painting depicts leaves growing out of a narrow-necked vase in a concise, minimal style reminiscent of Zen Buddhist art. Columns and clusters of pseudo-calligraphic scribbles surround the image, which has been mounted onto a patterned frame in the manner of Chinese scroll paintings.

Fairly serious foxing. Insect damage at the bottom left corner. Buckling. A dark brown spot near the bottom edge. Minor traces of insect damage along the left and bottom edges. Small tears at the top left and top right corners. Creases at the other corners. An unknown substance stuck to the paper near the left edge.
