With curved, sweeping hatch lines laid out in quick, back-and-forth pen strokes, the drawing depicts the artist with his eyes closed and without a mouth. Brief, broken pen strokes, erratic scribbles, blots of ink, and other gestural marks are arranged in clusters and columns along the upper and lower edges of the composition. Mounted on patterned paper in the manner of a Chinese scroll.

Foxing. Insect damage at the bottom left corner. Minor insect damage along the edges. Light creases at the top left and top right corners. Small tears along the left and right edges and near the bottom left and bottom right corners. Discolouration of the frame along the top edge.
