Description
-
With broad, forceful, sweeping curves, the painting represents the artist's face in a simplified, deliberately naive style reminiscent of Zen Buddhist art. Surrounding his image are columns of calligraphic forms which were likely created by applying the paint tube to the paper directly. The self-portrait is superimposed over swathes of dilute ink and enigmatic lines which hint at the presence of a secondary image. Mounted on patterned paper, in the manner of a Chinese scroll.
