Description
-
Slender, winding, continuous scribbles and loops, and short, broken hatch lines painted in quick, gestural strokes, forming a semi-abstract, figurative depiction of the Sanxing (三星) or the Three Stars, which refers to the major celestial gods in Chinese mythology, Fu, Lu, and Shou (福祿壽).
Shou, who represents longevity, is recognisable by his swollen forehead and long, white beard; Lu, who represents rank and influence, holds a ruyi-sceptre at the centre of the image; while Fu, who represents good fortune, is depicted with two children to the right.
