Rows of the name "Samak" (สมัค [สมัคร]) in the form of a simplified, rectilinear silhouette symbolising the palm-leaf manuscript box, the stacked offering bowls, and the round turret at the centre of the Democracy Monument. The name refers to Samak Sundaravej, an anti-Communist political leader who played a role in the events leading up to the 6 October 1976 massacre.
