Rows of the name "Thanom" (ถนอม) in the form of a simplified, rectilinear silhouette symbolising the palm-leaf manuscript box, the stacked offering bowls, and the round turret at the centre of the Democracy Monument. The name refers to Thanom Kittikachorn, the prime minister of Thailand from 1963 to 1973.
