A stylised, abstract self-portrait reduced to a logographic symbol painted in bold, calligraphic strokes, representing the artist's characteristic facial features. Four birds formed by concise, minimal strokes occupy the artist's cheeks and forehead, such that his face doubles as an image of a tree. Columns of pseudo-script are inscribed over nearly the entire image.

Foxing. Very slight creases at the top left and bottom left corners. Tiny white spots on the black strokes. A tiny red spot near the left edge. Stains on the reverse due to the medium used seeping through the paper.
