A stylised, semi-abstract self-portrait composed of bold outlines, with brief, broken brushstrokes layered over the artist's skin; his pupils are left blank, as is his moustache and the left side of his face, creating gradations of light and shade. Long, sweeping brushstrokes represent the artist's hair. Near the lower edge of the work are scribbles and dripping streaks of paint. Painted in shades of blue and brown.

Foxing. Tear along the right edge which has been repaired. Diagonal crease at the bottom right corner. Relatively slight creases at the other corners. Tiny pin holes at the corners. Tape on the reverse. Brown stains on the reverse due to the medium used seeping through the paper. Slight buckling.
