A stylised, semi-abstract self-portrait composed of faceted, geometric planes filled with daubs of paint and brief, broken hatch lines, conveying light and shade and giving the image a sense of three-dimensionality. Quick, sweeping downstrokes represent the artist's moustache and beard, while his eyes are left blank. Painted in monochromatic shades of blue and black.

Foxing. Creases and tiny pin holes at the corners. Tears and creases along the left and right edges. Tape on the reverse. Brown stains at the top left and bottom left corners and along the right edge. Grey smudges and faint fingerprints.
