A combination of confident, gestural brushstrokes, some of which were painted wet-on-wet, and thin outlines, forming an image of a crow perched on a tree branch from which pink flowers are growing, in the style of Chinese bird-and-flower paintings.

Signed "壮" at the bottom right corner of the work. To the left is a stylised seal of the artist's name (壮), the date "May 1958" (戊戌年五月), the location, "Siam" (寫於暹京), and the artist's signature (陈壮作). To the right are comments on the quality of the painting, written in pencil:

In fragile condition. Serious foxing. Horizontal and vertical folds. Serious tears along the edges and at the top right, bottom left, and bottom right corners. Creases at the corners and along the edges. Tear at the centre of the work. Grazing. Holes (likely caused by insects). Pink stains. Stains on the back from the medium used seeping through the paper.
