A self-portrait reduced to a logographic form consisting of ink smeared over the glossy surface of the work in broad, smooth, confident, gestural strokes, in the manner of Chinese calligraphy. At the top right corner of the composition the word "Tao" (道) has been painted using the artist's fingers.

Foxing. Creases at the bottom left and bottom right corners. Tiny tear at the bottom left corner. Very slight damage at the top left corner. Unknown substance stuck to the work. Scratches. Traces of mould. Grey smudges. Tape on the reverse. Faint stains on the reverse from the medium used seeping through the paper.
