An abstract, gestural painting composed of broad, textured, brushstrokes scribbled freely over the centre of the composition. Superimposed over the brushstrokes and thus concealed is the word "real" or "true" (真), in clerical script (隶书), and a cross—possibly a fragment of the same word.

Foxing. A fingerprint at the top left corner. May be part of the work. Small creases at the top right and bottom left corners. Tears and creases along the right edge. Stains on the back from the medium used seeping through the paper. Dirt stuck to the work.
